Caring for Lisianthus (Eustoma grandiflorum)

Lisianthus is also commonly known as Bluebell Gentian, Prairie Gentian, and Texas Bluebell. Lisianthus are a tender perennial and most often grown as an annual in our area. Their beauty keeps them in high demand for floral arrangements. They also look fabulous in a mixed border or containers.

When you bring your Lisianthus plugs home in March, keep them indoors in a warm sunny location. Transplant them to a small container until the risk of frost has passed and they can go out to the garden. Harden them off like you would a tomato plant seedling, bring them outside  on a warm day keeping them shaded from the mid day sun for a couple days, and then they are ready to be planted in your chosen location. Lisianthus like a sunny location, they can tolerate morning or afternoon shade.
